The Black Arts

Reading the poems produced by these authors were very touching. The world was changed because of these people. Racism is not a thing of the past but lives lively still. Most people today are more familiar with the difference of color. Yet you still have hate for reasons that to me are useless. I admire these authors for taking the steps toward a more civil union. I truly enjoyed the video of Amiri Baraka and his reading.

  1. I agree Shawna, but racism doesn't have a color. Discrimination can be found in every country around the world. I always applaud anybody who stands up for what they believe in and speaks intelligently about it. Even as dry as Thoreau's writing was, what he was saying can be translated even to today. When I think about that time period and the Civil Rights movement of course Malcolm X and Martin Luther King Jr come to mind, so does Medger Evers. The passive aggressive way that Martin Luther and Medger Evers can be directly applied to Thoreau's Civil Disobedience.

Long live anyone who has the courage and strength to stand up for what they know is wrong.

  2. I would say that I agree with Deb about this. I enjoyed the reading too. I think Roger and Ryan put it together well. It was easy for me to read and understand. Their presentation was cool too!
